Blu-ray Players

Blu-ray is officially the new high-definition video format which replaces DVDs. Offering dazzling picture and sound quality, it must be seen to be believed. All Blu-ray players are backwards compatible; they can play Blu-ray discs, while enabling you to watch and listen to any DVDs and CDs you already own.

Blu-ray players come in three different 'profiles' - 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0. The differences between these relate to the player's ability to give access to online content, automatic updates and access to locally stored content (on an SD card for example). Blu-ray discs can hold up to 25 GB (single layer) or 50 GB (dual layer). As with DVDs, Blu-ray discs are region encoded, although these are different to the DVD regions.
