Speakers are the most personal aspect of a sound system. Our stock includes large floorstanders to hidden in-ceiling options, and everything in between. When choosing a set of speakers, there are many aspects to consider, but it is always a good idea to hear them for yourself.
Although speakers are at the end of the audio chain, they are the most variable part of any system. A speaker has three main parts: the drivers, which move back and forth in relation to the music signal; the crossover, which splits the signal into the appropriate frequency bands for distribution to the drivers; and the cabinet, which houses the crossover and the drivers. Most contemporary speakers present a 6 Ohm or 8 Ohm load to the amp driving them. Speaker efficiencies range from about 87 dB to 100 dB or so, with the optimum range between 90-92 dB for the best balance of volume and driver control. Speakers have a blend of tonal characteristics related to the overall combined speaker design, the acoustics of the room and the system driving them. Conventional floorstanding speakers still give the best possible sound, as a general rule; however, there are many alternatives - bookshelf speakers, on-wall, in-wall or in-ceiling as the application demands.
